BBC One Show unite for RHS Garden of Hope in Chelsea Flower Show 2021

The RHS Garden of Hope is linking forces with BBC One Show for an exciting feature garden at Chelsea Flower Show 2021.

The RHS Garden of Hope and BBC One Show, designed by award-winning garden designer and Garden Rescue star Anderson, will demonstrate how gardening and growing plants provides expectation and joy as we look forward to enjoying the fruits of our labor as our plants grow and flourish.

Significantly, the garden will live on after the September RHS Chelsea Flower Show at Mother and Baby Unit Rosewood, part of Kent and Medway NHS Social Care Partnership Trust, to provide a safe, beautiful preserve and place of courage for the women and their babies to spend time in.

Essential to Anderson design is a beautiful steam bent wooden sculpture by Charlie Whinney, which twists and flows throughout the garden, generating the feeling of a big hug, while including seating areas and a child’s swing.

And, on BBC One Show (weekdays at 7:00 pm on BBC One), audiences can get involved too, as they are able to contribute inspirational words to the design which will be engraved into the wooden sculpture.

BBC One Show presenter Alex Jones

BBC One Show presenter Alex Jones said that, “There will be loads of ideas for everyone to put into their own gardens too and we’ll be following the whole process, showing you exactly what goes into creating a beautiful garden at the world-famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show. I can’t wait to see it come to life”.

With Chelsea Flower Show taking place in autumn for the 1st time in 2021, Anderson will be selecting plants to celebrate and reflect the season, which is an important harvest time. The garden will have a natural feel, with a amount of trees, some turning with autumnal colors, and areas of dense rich green planting at the front of the garden, which will become more colorful as you walk through it.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show returns in September 2021. It was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, with a virtual show in its place.

Arit Anderson

Arit Anderson explains: “The most important part of this garden is that it will end up at the Mother and Baby unit, so the whole design for RHS Chelsea Flower Show has been created around where the garden will end up, not where it will start. Central to everything in it, is how I hope it will help those using it at Rosewood over the coming years. I want it to provide the women with hope and be a place to relax in and feel nurtured in, in the way that only being immersed in nature can nurture you.”

The prizewinning Landform Consultants will be building The RHS Garden of Hope and BBC One Show both at RHS Chelsea Flower Show and at Rosewood Mother and Baby Unit, where renowned garden designer and landscaper, Mark Gregory and his team, will work closely with Anderson to bring both gardens to life.

Helena Pettit, RHS Director

Commenting on the feature garden, Helena Pettit, RHS Director of Gardens and Shows, explains: “When you plant a bulb in autumn you are thinking of the tulip that will emerge in spring, when you plant a small tree you are thinking how over the years it will grow providing shade, privacy and a home for many wildlife. Growing plants helps provide hope for the future and makes the world a greener and more beautiful place.”

At RHS Chelsea Flower Show (21 – 26 September 2021), the garden will be situated at the bottom of Main Avenue opposite the triangle, next to the RHS Hub.
